Juvenile Crime Rises

In late 1995 early 1996 a tactical team of 6 officers from the North Kent Police were

appointed to the area to combat the rise in juvenile related crimes, they soon arrested three teenagers boys for the attempted theft of a motorcycle. One of the boys was in fact my own son Simon, who had for several months become increasingly difficult to manage. At that time we did not know where to turn for help, we felt isolated & alone with a problem son. Until the inevitable outcome his arrest.

ARREST PROMPTS ACTION

Following the arrest of my son and his two friends in February 1996, my sister & I realized the need to provide alternative facilities for young people. We carried out extensive out project they could call their own, and that they would have a degree in the running of.

COMMUNITY, STATUTORY AND GOVERNMENT BODIES SUPPORT

We carried out a survey in March 1996 to address the problems of disaffected youth, of which 1,450 local residents gave support for alternative provisions to be made available. Contacts were made and support gained from Local Town, Borough & County Council. Area Social Services, North Kent Police, the Fire services, schools and other agencies.

Parents Lead The Way

The inaugural meeting of the Community Youth Association took place in March 1997 with a group of people from the local area forming a committee, adopting a constitution recommend by the charity commission, and charity status applied for. The committee also includes representative from statutory services who act as advisors.
