THE ORGANISATION.

The Community Youth Association is a grass root initiative conceived in the spring of 1996 by local parents and teenagers, concerned by the lack of facilities provided for the disadvantaged children of the area. The association offers services, facilities, activities and support for children, young people and their families. Creating a foundation to help rebuild the unity in the community, promote a safer society by stimulating a sense of public responsibility.

RURAL AREA IN NEED

Swanscombe & Greenhithe are situated between the main towns of Dartford & Gravesend in the County of Kent. It has a population of approximately 9,500. The area ranks high in levels of deprivation, it has high levels of unemployment. The area lost its senior school in 1992 causing the transportation of some four hundred & fifty pupils to outer area schools. This caused a segregation within the teenage populous, giving rise to gangs on our streets and rise in juvenile related crime.Extensive regeneration of the area is now taking place, Blue Water Park is now open and the construction of the Channel Tunnel rail link is under way. Future plans include a new leisure complex at Stone plus some 30,000 new homes in the Ebbsfleet & Eastern Quarry Developments.

Swanscombe has finally seen the return of a new Community school in the last two years. Giving the cornerstone for rebuilding our community.
